NEW YORK -  The 5,300 year-old ice mummy named Ötzi, that was discovered in the Eastern Alps roughly 20 years ago may be the oldest evidence of Lyme disease.

Some studies led by researchers discovered that the mummy was lactose intolerant, and predisposed to cardiovascular disease, and had blood type O and brown eyes.

This is what the researcher Albert Zink said: “Our data point to the earliest documented case of a B. burg dorferi infection in mankind. To our knowledge, no other case report about borreliosis [Lyme disease] is available for ancient or historic specimens,”
